The project successfully balances heritage-led design with modern performance, delivering elegant, durable, and hygienic washroom facilities suitable for a prestigious London media organisation operating within a traditional building.
Project Overview: Traditional washroom refurbishment for DMG Media
The project involved enhancing the existing staff facilities within a heritage building in Kensington, London, occupied by DMG Media.
Working closely with Lady Rothermere, the design team created a timeless washroom environment that prioritised staff well-being, while reflecting the heritage values associated with one of London’s most prominent media organisations.
Design challenge: Blending heritage aesthetics with modern standards
The primary challenge facing the team was to deliver a washroom design that balanced traditional aesthetics with modern performance. The refurbishment needed to enhance staff facilities while maintaining the architectural character and prestige of the building.
Not only this, but the team had to deliver facilities that remained practical for high-traffic commercial use. Every element needed to align with the building’s historic character while complying with modern expectations for:

Timeless traditional washroom design
The design centres around marble-effect vanity tops with matching upstands, offering the appearance of natural stone combined with durability and ease of maintenance, ideal for high-traffic commercial washrooms.
These vanity units are complemented by Burlington mono mixer taps and coordinating soap dispensers, selected for their classic form, premium finish and long-term reliability. Together, these elements create a cohesive washroom environment that feels elegant, refined and enduring.
High-quality materials and thoughtful specification
The toilet cubicles provide full privacy and are finished in a woodgrain laminate, introducing warmth and texture to the space while remaining robust and suitable for commercial use.
Kursall ceramic floor tiles have been installed throughout the washrooms, chosen for their non-slip properties, durability and ease of cleaning, ensuring safety without compromising on visual appeal.
Wall finishes have been carefully selected from Sanderson, using a combination of Dusky White and Cameo White, creating a soft, neutral palette that enhances light levels and reinforces the traditional character of the space.
Space-efficient urinal design
Healey & Lord Florida premium ceramic urinal bowls have been used across the project. Their distinctive traditional design naturally provides user privacy without the need for urinal dividers, improving space efficiency while maintaining a high-end aesthetic, ideal for premium commercial washrooms.
